Robert Zardeneta is the Director of LA CAUSA, a nonprofit organization that serves underserved youth and their families in East Los Angeles.

LA CAUSA students retrofit houses into green homes and connect local farming economies to “Mom and Pop” convenient stores in East Los Angeles. As communities across the globe go “green”, LA CAUSA looks into their own backyard to implement Green Building Initiatives and Alternative Local Organic Market Alterations. It makes sense for East Los Angeles to take on this “Green” and Healthy make over because the community already thrives on local “Mom and Pop” shops. It’s easier to inform and educate these smaller businesses about how to make responsible choices for their community.

In this segment we learn about the needs of East Los Angeles and we follow Robert and his students as they install solar panels on rooftops and give a local convenient store a green and healthy makeover. Their work is making East LA one of the greenest urban areas in the nation.
